Confessions of an HR Manager in a Translation and Localization Company

Today as technological advancements are making it easier to take on more work as an individual, skilled translators try to bypass companies that cut into their profit margins. Yeah, we know! Still, there are translators that like the benefit of having an LSP as an agent as we take care of all the Project Management, billing and getting you the job business.

So as an HR Manager in a highly effective LSP, one of my primary business goals is to have a base of professional, fast and reliable translators. These are some of my rules of good HR!

1. Respond – Everyday I receive dozens of CV’s and applications and even though I have loads of current work I try to write a personalized message to each applicant.

2. When I actively recruit for my Project Managers, I ALWAYS give feedback even to those translators that do not end up winning the project.

3. I always try to look for new innovative ways of communicating with outside translators. Recently, we have started CIKLOPEA Translation Services which is a group on Linkedin that we all use to keep our translators in the know. We have just started doing this so please join us!

4. WE ALWAYS PAY ON TIME! Even if it means I have to chase down our accounting department.

5. I respond to all of my messages and e-mails from translators regarding holiday leaves, complaints or lavish praise to my HR skills. Our associates are a huge part of our success and we know it.

6. And yeah, I am only human and sometimes I screw up. So, you should call me again. I won’t bite.
